You can put 2.5 to 3 tablespoons of corn in it, but no more, otherwise it will be too full. Depending on the microwave and the degree it should be 3-4 minutes, I always set it to 4 minutes and if it hardly pops I take it out early. So I haven't burned anything yet. The bowl comes with a silicone lid that has a heat-resistant handle. The silicone bowl is also very warm after use but not so hot that you would burn yourself.
